Arvind Kejriwal Challenges ED Summons in Delhi Excise Policy Money Laundering Case

top-news

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has taken a decisive step by challenging all the Enforcement Directorate (ED) summons related to the Delhi excise policy-linked money laundering case at the Delhi High Court (HC). The move comes after a series of summonses from the ED to Kejriwal, all of which were ignored by the Chief Minister. The most recent summons calls for Kejriwal's appearance before the agency on March 21. The challenge petition is scheduled for hearing on Wednesday, March 20, before a bench comprising Justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Manoj Jain.

The ongoing legal battle stems from alleged corruption linked to the formulation and implementation of the Delhi government's excise policy for 2021-22, a policy that was subsequently revoked. The case gained momentum following an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) based on recommendations from Lt Governor VK Saxena, leading to a money laundering investigation by the ED.

Arvind Kejriwal has consistently deemed the ED's summons as "invalid" and "illegal," refusing to comply with them. The ED, on its part, has filed charge sheets implicating Kejriwal multiple times in the excise policy case, alleging that he was in communication with the accused regarding the formulation of the policy.

The legal developments have escalated, with AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh currently in judicial custody in connection with the case. Kejriwal's recent bail granted by a Delhi court pertains to complaints filed by the ED for his failure to attend six out of the previous eight summonses.

In a related development, the ED's arrest of BRS leader K Kavitha on March 15, following raids at her residence in Hyderabad, underscores the intensifying probe into the Delhi excise policy case. Kavitha has been remanded to ED custody for interrogation until March 23. These developments collectively highlight the gravity and complexity of the ongoing legal battle surrounding the Delhi excise policy and its ramifications.
